How to be a winning valentine
Set expectations
It’s important not to over promise what you plan to give your partner on Valentine’s Day. If you big up your plans too much, then you are only going to disappoint. Start by playing it cool. You don’t want them thinking you have completely neglected the day. Apart from anything, you might find yourself with an empty hand. But just hold your words back a little in advance so that you can impress in the delivery.

Start Simple
On the morning of Valentine’s day, you can’t go wrong with a paper card. A well chosen card that shows you understand the person you are sending it to with a heartfelt message inside is going to get the day off to a good start. For the more artistic or bold out there, you may like to make a card yourself. Those willing to push the boat out a little further can make a cooked breakfast. Or granola, fruit and yoghurt for the more health conscious. If you really want to make sure you are valentine number one, then you can order a mug in advance for your loved one’s first coffee or cup of tea in bed.

Keep up momentum
Many people make the mistake of going large on showering gifts on their valentine at breakfast and thinking that it’s job done. The real winners on Valentine’s day are those who keep up with thoughtful additions throughout the day. One option that can work well is sending a Valentines eCard early afternoon. Your partner may have gone to work. Or gone to the gym. Any moment that they are out and about is a good time to send over a 2050card. Think about the customised message you send. See if you can make it relevant to what they are doing in that moment. “I still love you when you come back from the gym all sweat”, for instance.

Reap the rewards
At the end of a long day of showing your Valentine that they are the best thing since sliced bread. You’ve cooked breakfast. You’ve made tea in a custom mug. And shown that you are still thinking of them throughout the day by sending a beautiful Valentine’s eCard, like Pebbles in Love, or Through Wind and Waves. Now you are ready to enjoy the fruits of your labour. If you get Valentine’s right, you are going to have at least one week of relationship plain-sailing. Put your feet up and enjoy the love that comes back your way.
