Treat Yo Self. Sometimes, you just have to go with the waves. And what better way to do so than with a floppy brim hat, an inflatable vessel, and a coconut of colada? Of course, the waves of life won’t always be palm trees and pink skies but this hazy, lazy ecard, from artist Amy Tibbles and composer Ben Bavonese, is a reminder that you deserve to treat yourself kindly. After all, life should be a beach not a b*%ch.
Amy Tibbles is a London based illustrator and animator. Her work is vibrant, stylish and heartfelt. She studied animation and illustration at Kingston University and has since set up her studio in North East London. Along with several of her contemporaries at Kingston she initiated the ‘Change of Kit’ campaign to promote the 2019 Women’s World Cup. This involved curating a team of eleven illustrators and designs to launch a range of T-shirts, with all the proceeds going to grassroots initiatives that help women get into football. She directs music videos, short films and works with a range of commercial clients.
Ben Bavonese was encouraged by his twin brother, Noah, who works at the prestigious animation studio Giant Ant, to pursue a life in sound design. His musical grounding comes from spending years transcribing the masters of jazz by ear. He took the same approach sound design, learning by doing, emulating his favourite artists. Alongside his compositions for animation, he is in a jazz and R&B band in Chicago. That energy feeds into his compositions, which are fresh, impeccably produced, and make use of well chosen samples combined with layered melodics.
